THE CAPABILITIES OF THOMPSON INDUSTRIES

CNC Turning-
Our equipment list includes seven turning centers capable of diameters from ¼" up to 23-1/2". Our "Swiss style" lathe is a high production, automatic machine capable of holding tighter tolerances than a screw machine. Our Ikegai TUR30 has live tooling making it a perfect machine for large hub and shaft castings with bolt-circles. Our Okuma LB 25 is our newest large lathe. It is powerful (25h.p.) and fast. This is a good machine for medium quantity runs (200-2000pcs.) of gear blanks and collars. We also have two Ikegai TUR15 mill turn centers with live tooling and two Ikegai FX20N 2-axis lathes.

CNC Milling-
Thompson Industries has five vertical mill machining centers. All of our mill machining centers are Ikegai TV series. Four are TV-4’s with a table travel of 22" by 16". Our largest mill machining center is a TV-5 with a table travel of 40" by 20". We have HAAS rotary tables for programmable 4-axis machining. lthough Thompson Industries has decided to concentrate our efforts on turning, we will remain current with CNC milling machines and plan to purchase a large horizontal or 5-axis mill in the future.

Manual Machining-
Thompson Industries has many pieces of manual machinery including mills, lathes, saws, presses and grinders. Our manual machines are used primarily for "tooling up" for production runs on automatic equipment and making welding fixtures. We do not actively seek "tooling" or 1 and 2 piece work, but we can accommodate our customers needs in this area.

Welding-
Thompson Industries currently has MIG welding capabilities and due to the amount TIG welding we out-source, we will be adding TIG welding by the end of the year 2000. Thompson Industries excels at producing tight tolerance weldments.

Assembly & Packaging-
Thompson Industries currently runs two assembly lines for customers. On one line we assemble boring/insertion machines for a hinge manufacturer.
These machines are completed and packaged for direct shipment to the end user. At the customers request we have also had these machines approved by Underwriters Laboratory for both U.S. and Canadian Standards.
On the second line we assemble a door opening assembly for an air cylinder manufacturer. We have plans to install our customers air cylinder on these assemblies and ship them directly to the end user, a motor coach manufacturer.
